A Whole lot of Croc to Bear This Day

A 20-foot-long crocodile with three sets of fangs roamed parts of northern Africa milions of years ago, researchers say. On Thursday, Paul Sereno of the University of Chicago and Hans Larsson of McGill University in Montreal reported their discovery at a news conference organized by the National Geographic Society, which sponsored the research. Here, Sereno, enveloped in the jaws of SuperCroc, holds the fossil head of DogCroc in his hand. DogCroc lived in the Sahara at the same time as the 8-ton SuperCroc. (Mike Hettwer/National

Dolores, a hairless female spectacled bear, is shown in her enclosure at a zoo in Leipzig, Germany, Nov. 3, 2009. An unknown condition has left all the female spectacled bears at the zoo without hair. It is thought that a genetic defect might be responsible for the disease. Despite the loss of hair and itching, the animals do not appear to suffer from other afflictions. (Jan Woitas/EPA)
