Computer Problems

I think we can say that everyone has had computer problems. And probably each of us has had to call for Tech help one time or another. furthermore I bet that after talking to Tech help a lot of us has come away red-faced. Do any of the following sound familiar? Just a small reminder that at one time we were newbies also to the computer.

Divorce problems?

I just had a call from a woman who read to me everything in the "About Box" for Microsoft Works for the Macintosh. Her frustration was that every time she tried to click on the user's name in the about box it disappeared! "How do I get rid of this woman's name," she asked?
"Well," I explained, "that's the name of the author of the program; you can't get rid of it."
"What?! You mean every time I startup Works I'm gonna have to look at my husband's ex-wife's name?"

A college education?

When I was in college, I worked four hours a week as a tutor for an introductory computer class. Once I was helping a student out who was having trouble using Microsoft Excel. He couldn't figure out how to print out cell formulas (a common problem). After I showed him what to do, he hit the print button, then sat there and stared blankly at the screen. After a few seconds, he turned to me and asked, "Do I have to go get it from the printer now?"

First time sex?

Tech Support: "What does the screen say now?"
Customer: "It says, 'Hit ENTER when ready'."
Tech Support: "Well?"
Customer: "How do I know when it's ready?"

From one of my smarter clients:
Customer: "Why is something broken every time you're here?"

Pictures are worth a thousand words?

Once I had a guy bring in two polaroid pictures of screen shots of his computer. He claimed they were "before" and "after" shots and wanted us to diagnose his computer problems by looking at the pictures. They looked the same to us -- but we kept them and posted them in the back area with a $1000 dollar reward to anyone who could diagnose the problem that way.

Hi Griper!

Okay, I now have a confession to make. I repair computer software. I guess I should say I used to repair computer software but gave it up because I really don't have the time for it anymore. The telephone company has yet to remove my number from the phone book, so I refer people to a guy I know is good and can be trusted to be fair in his price.

Although it's not software, I have also set up a lot of computers. My old pc broke down, but I had it repaired. I also bought a new one, so I installed the old one in a different room for my hubby to use. It wouldn't work! I couldn't figure it out and was ready to tear my hair out when I decided to break down and call the repair guy who I refer everyone else to.

He came out an fixed it in 30 seconds flat! I had plugged one of the cords into the wrong jack. He's a sweet guy. He didn't laugh and he wouldn't take my money.

Anybody can make a stupid mistake. :)

HAHA, thanks Griper!

Reminds me of the movie "Zoolander", where Hansel (Owen Wilson) throws the computer to the ground and wonders where the files are that he was told were in it. :-P
