Time Waits for no Man

Grandpa was reading an article on the web and when he finished he just sat back and appeared to be thinking about what it was saying. I sat down next to him and began to read it myself. It was a science article that appeared to be saying that we place a value on things other than physical property in the same manner as we place on commodities. When I had finished reading the article I looked at grandpa as if to get his take on what the article said. He just looked at me with a smile then he just nodded as he said,

“There is a lot of truth in what was found out in that experiment, boy. I’ll admit that I never thought about things along that line before but it is an interesting perspective. I think that can be borne out by how we have a tendency to look at time as we pass through each stage of our life.

When we are young we can’t wait until that time comes that we can call ourselves an adult. The years seem like that it is taking forever to grow up. Yet, once we reach the stage of adulthood something strange seems to happen. All of a sudden it seems as if time is just flying by and we have no time to do all the things we want to do anymore.

You begin to learn just how unique each moment is in your life. You will see each experience as being unique and once each experience has been taken away from you, you know that it can never to be had again.

As you grow older the people in your life seem to become even more precious than you thought they ever could be. The idea of having a family or even the idea of friendship takes on whole new meaning. Things are no longer taken for granted as they once were when we are young.

Maybe this is why sentimental value seems to give something a far more precious value then the actual monetary value of objects. It reminds us of a rare time in our lives that we hold very dear to our hearts. We’ll place a greater value on some pictures we have that were taken with a cheaply made camera and printed on some cheaply made paper then we would a bar of gold.

I think what that article really was saying is that we are a foolish species in that we waste our youth but don’t realize it until life hits us on the head with a sledge hammer. Life is a very precious commodity, boy. Too many people have given up their own life so that we might know just how valuable it is.”

True, very true. So many times we don't appreciate anything until it's gone.
